CBC Music Toyota Searchlight 2022 – Winners Announced!

Play-MPE Searchlight

Team Play MPE

June 29, 2022

It’s an exciting time for the Canadian music industry and music fans!

CBC Music’s Toyota Searchlight 2022 just announced the winners of this year’s competition!

The judges certainly had their hands full, crafting the original Top 100 and narrowing it down to a very competitive Top 10. Now, they’ve finally announced the official winners, and they are a multi-talented and deserving bunch.

Play MPE is pleased to be able to furnish all of the winners with music promotion distribution packages as part of their extensive Toyota Searchlight prize packages, to help all of this amazing Canadian music reach more ears!

Team Play MPE wants to extend a hearty congratulations to Grand Prize Winner Chad Price of London, ON for his big win with his song ‘Somehow, Someway’.

“Are you serious?” Price questioned, when Toyota Searchlight surprised him with the big news. “Wow! I was not expecting this at all. That’s crazy! I was honestly just really, really happy to be in the top 10 … I was happy to be in that great group of artists that are super talented and just as deserving, so now it’s just sinking in.”

Chad Price is a self-made, self-managed, award-winning pop-R&B artist from London, Ont., with 10 years of experience in the music industry. His smooth style, incredible voice, business savvy and positive attitude all made a big impression on the judges. Not to mention the soaring, feel-good chorus in his winning song, “Somehow, Someway” — music that seems perfect for our times.

“This song is about being able to get back up,” Price explained when asked about “Somehow, Someway.” “It’s about continuing to strive forward even though it sometimes feels next to impossible to find that success, that thing that you want. I just wanted to write a song to encourage people to try to do the things that they love. It was written during the pandemic, so I thought people could use some positive vibes.”

And of course to all of the phenomenal runners-up:

Fionn, ‘I Won’t Lie’ (White Rock, B.C.)

Meltt, ‘Love Again’ (Vancouver, B.C.)

Mindflip, ‘Mind Control’ (Gatineau, Quebec)

Siibii (a.k.a. Angel Baribeau), ‘Wish we Were Older’ (Mistissini, Quebec)

Kudos to this year’s Fan’s Choice winners who ran incredible campaigns to score the most votes: Heather Gemmell, ‘North Star Burning’ (Kimberley, B.C.), Leave Those Kids Alone, ‘Where She Was’ (Windsor, Ont., Madison Galloway, ‘Devil in Her Eye’ (Fergus, Ont.)
