Love is in the Air(waves)

“Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs. And what’s wrong with that?”

As Paul McCartney and WINGS sang in 1976, the world is filled with silly love songs. With that in mind, we’ve set out to prove to you that when it comes to Valentine’s Day, there’s something out there for everyone to listen to. No matter where you fall on the day, there’s a song for you! Whether you’re feeling romantic, happy, angry, sad, looking for a hookup, doing Galentines with the girls or hanging with your boys, we’ve got you covered!

Dancing on the Valentine

We get it, you’re all in. You’ve already put your perfumed cards in the mail and wrote S.W.A.K on the back of the envelope. You have the perfect outfit ready. You already know what meal you’re serving (because you can’t go out) and which delicious chocolates you will have for dessert. Now you need the music:

Love Story – Taylor Swift

Love to Love You – Donna Sommer

Can’t Help Falling In Love – Elvis Presley

I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston

F*ck It (I Don’t Want You Back)

February 14th is the worst day in the world. If you could, you’d go to sleep on February 13th and wake up on the 15th. You want to gift the Hallmark exec who thought this whole day up a piece of your mind. If you see another red heart, you’re going to puke. These are for you:

You Oughta Know – Alanis Morissette

We are Never Ever Getting Back Together – Taylor Swift

Heart Shaped Box – Nirvana

Save Your Tears – The Weeknd

No More I Love You’s

When you have a Valentine, there’s nothing better in this world. But when you don’t, you just want to sit at home, eat candy, order in a pizza with lots of toppings, watch cheesy (pun intended) Hallmark movies, sit through multiple airings of “Say Anything” and maybe shed a tear or two. These songs speak to you:

Hello – Adele

Love Will Tear Us Apart – Joy Division

Heartbreak Hotel – Elvis Presley

Without You – The Kid Laroi

Ridin’ Solo

You’re happy for your friends who are all about St. Valentine, but that’s just not you. Even if you have a Valentine, you’re too into doing your own thing to make a big deal about it. You feel that every day is a good day to celebrate yourself, and hey, we’re right there with you. Stick these tracks on:

Single Ladies – Beyonce

Roar – Katy Perry

Dancing with Myself – Billy Idol

Lovin’ Me – Kid Cudi ft. Phoebe Bridgers

#1 Crush

You’re going to use this Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to make a mixtape for that girl/guy/they in the next cubicle, the cutie in your dorm who always smiles at you, or the one you want to slide out of the friendzone and into your dms. Here’s some good ones:

Treat You Better – Shawn Mendes

Love Song – Yung Blud

Crush – Brkn Love

Lovesick Girls – Black Pink

If you’re a Play MPE member, the coolest way to celebrate the day is to write a song! If you love being in love, hate romance, are sad because of a break up or love yourself more than anyone else, put that pen to paper and sing about it… Once you’ve got recordings of your new audio gems use Caster to get those tunes into the ears of tastemakers everywhere. When music supervisors are picking cues for the next big rom-com, break up movie or tear-jerking love story, you will already in the mix (pun intended again!)

Speaking of, whether you’re celebrating with your bubble, a special someone or yourself, we Play MPE’rs have also assembled a veritable bouquet of amazing relationship movies jammed with music in an array of feels. Just imagine being featured on one of these soundtracks?! If this list isn’t inspiration enough to start writing new songs, well hey, you can at least get your movie marathon on and snack on some cinnamon candy hearts and Ruby chocolate.

Mmmm chocolate.
