The 2021 American Songwriter Song Contest winners were announced recently and Californian singer-songwriter Lauryn Marie was declared the first place winner! As proud sponsors of this annual song contest challenge, we were honored to sit down with Lauryn for a chinwag.
The winning song
Lauryn Marie’s song “Walk” received a global music promotion distribution package from Play MPE as part of her winnings. That release went out to nearly 40,000 vetted tastemakers, and has topped several of the Play MPE weekly charts, including the Rock, Triple A and Canadian Downloads. Upon this early success she exclaimed “So incredible… I’ve just been looking through the list of all the people that it got sent out to and it just blows my mind that I get the chance to have it in front of this many people.”
Currently studying songwriting at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, Lauryn had plenty to offer on her songwriting craft, finding inspiration, her approach to production, and much more. In this conversation with our very own David Gurtina, she opens up about why she entered the contest, and the big surprise moment when it was revealed she had won!
